Golden Globes 2019 Red Carpet Rundown: The Good!

My dear readers, welcome back to our high holy days - AWARDS SEASON! We'll spend the next few months seeing the same faces posing on many red carpets in formal wear and varying degrees of necklaces and will evaluate them in their turn. Delightfully, we have the Gaga Of It All this awards season and I feel certain she will not disappoint. We have oh so very much to cover with the Golden Globes so let's dive in.

THE GOOD

Regina King!
Gorgeous color, excellent hair, beautiful makeup. Could it use a necklace? Mayyyyyybe but honestly I didn't miss it all that much because she's wearing such a good bra. Regina, I love you and I am so happy every time the world celebrates you!

Judith Light!
Monochromatic drama from turtleneck to toe.

Thandie Newton!
Disco-era Diana Ross for the 21st century with impeccable fit.

Rami Malek!
I don't normally love the white tie on white shirt look but he's killing it. He dressed like a winner.

Chrissy Metz!
I do not love the embellishments but I do love the bateau neckline, this red on her, and everything that is going on with her head.

Olivia Colman!
I really went back and forth on this one but I've decided I like it. It's a little batshit but it's a lot fabulous.

La Kidman!
While it can be argued that La Kidman came dressed as beef jerky, I challenge you to find a single flaw in the tailoring of this gown. This is one of the most immaculate fits I have ever seen. And she's carrying a giant tea infuser as a purse! As the children say, your fave could never! (And, anyway, why would they try?)

Idris Elba (seen here with Sabrina Dhowre)!
Everything seems to be in order here. Matching shoes and no tie are A Strong Choice but honestly, Idris can get away with a lot.

Halle Berry!
If one is going to wear a transparent tablecloth to the Golden Globes, one had best look like Halle Berry while doing so.

Carol Burnett!
She looks fabulous and the coat looked gorgeous on television - the beading caught every light perfectly.

Tony Shalhoub!
I'm not sure the white jacket was the right choice but I don't hate it? Honestly, I was on the fence on this and almost put it into the Meh pile but decided against. It's not amaaaaaaaaazing but it's Better Than Meh.

Taraji P. Henson!
I really do think the neckline should not be this wide nor should it dip quite so low... that is, on a lesser mortal. This is another one I almost put it into the Meh pile but in the end I could not do it. Taraji is wearing the hell out of this look.

Darren Criss!
I'm delighted that men are choosing more interesting tuxes lately. I don't super love this but it's executed very well. Tricky to get the right size bowtie with such a busy coat!

Mahershala Ali!
Here's another interesting tux. I don't know if you can see the detail here but the paisley you're seeing on the evening scarf is mirrored in the pants and jacket. It's an absolutely stunning look.

Alyssa Milano!
She looks great. No notes.

Sandra Oh!
I love the styling on this and the mirror of the hair and the sleeve. It could have been very Patton-y but instead it's classic glam.

Lupita Nyong'o!
Practically perfect in every way.

Lena Waithe!
One of my favorite looks of the night. My entire jaw dropped when she walked on stage. This is impossibly chic.

Lady Gaga!
Gaga did not come to play! The color is sensational on her  - digging the matching hair - and the drama of the shawl is everything. You want to talk about a necklace?
THAT is a necklace. That is exactly what I'm talking about when I say could use a necklace (CUAN). Certainly with the big sleeves and the train some stylists would have gone without a necklace but (for me) dripping with jewels is a much for interesting look. I come to the red carpet for fantasy and for glamour. I got it with Gaga.
