Grammys 2013: The Good

Okay, let's be real. I am kind of square about music these days. I don't really seek out new bands or albums, mostly because I'm pretty sure no one will ever make a better album than In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, but also because I am really lazy. But! I have a coworker who listens to Top 40 radio all the damn time so I sort of know some of the new things. Also my sister constantly tells me that I have to listen to the Black Keys, so I at least know who they are.

All of this is to say half the people we're going to feature in this red carpet rundown are completely anonymous to me. This is why I don't usually cover the Grammys. But then I saw some photos and I just could not leave you hanging, dear readers. Without further ado...

THE GOOD

Rihanna!
BLAMMO. Ri looks absolutely amazing. Yes, it's true: that is some see-through red midsection, but somehow it looks elegant. This might be the best Rihanna has ever looked.

Taylor Swift!
Beautiful twist on her usual look. Yes, it's still white and floaty, but with the heavy construction elements and the styling, it reads far more "goddess" than "virgin." Her stylist clearly has a plan to age her up a bit and it's working well. GOOD JOB, STYLIST.

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka!
It must be hard to be so beautiful and well-dressed sometimes. David's coat is a little shiny but he's making it work.

Beyonce!
Okay, she looks A LITTLE BIT like a delicious cookie, but this look is amazing. The pants are gorgeously fitted, the shoes are just right, the proportions on the top are flattering. Not sure I would have gone with two gigantic cuffs, but I'll give her a pass on that.

Allison Williams!
Personal best on the RC. Well done, girl.

Shaun Robinson!
I will be the first to say that the necklace is a confusing mistake, but this is such an improvement over the Electric Youth dress, I couldn't help but throw her in the Good pile. I need a dress that helps me look tall like this one.

Juanes!
I have no idea what a Juanes is, but I'll take six of them. Thanks.

Solange!
Two, two, two Knowles sisters, ah! ah! ah! Now I personally never would have paired hot pink shoes with an emerald gown, but it works. The dress fits like a dream. I have long been consumed with envy of Solange's hair. I'd say all in all, she knocked it out of the park.

Sting and Trudie Styler!
I find it appropriate that Sting and Trudie were at the Grammys as it took me a full six months to figure out that "Somebody That I Used to Know" was NOT a Sting song. I also find it appropriate that Sting and Trudie look better than 95% of the attendees of the Grammys. That, my dear readers, is the definititve picture of effortless elegance. (And tiny little legs. Sting, seriously, where did your legs go?)

Mario Lopez!
Mario Lopez apparently thought he was auditioning for a role in That Thing You Do! at the Grammys. But even with that, he looks pretty suave. Have I told you yet you look great in maroon?

Dave and Jordyn Grohl!
I'll level with you: I'm not exactly sold on Jordyn's dress.  That said, she looks fantastic dressed as Fancy Beetlejuice, though I'm not sure that's what I desire out of my red carpet fare. Dave Grohl remains a stone fox who can rock the solid black suit look. There's only one other guy who can do that and, unfortunately, the only photo I have of him also features John Mayer so you won't see it in this pile.

John Mayer, I might add, who wore an indigo velvet suit jacket.

I'll just let that sink in for a moment.

Meanwhile...
Katy Perry!
This was a tough call, honestly. In the end, I don't love the color but the fit is superb, the cut is straight out of the Katy Perry Catalog, and it's a completely new look for her. So I say Good. Also, how did she get her boobs to do that? Girlfriend should give lessons.
