Oscars 2019 Appreciation: Selma Blair!

My dear readers, no that is not a typo, this is an Oscars post. I know you thought we were through but while I was re-watching Homecoming (Beyonce, not Julia) last night, I realized two things:
1. Next Monday is the Met Gala
2. I never wrote the post about Selma Blair at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party

So here we are! Now, I do not normally cover the Vanity Fair Party, nor any of the other Oscars parties, because I am but one mortal woman and I write this site on my lunch hour. That said, attention must be paid.

Attention. Must. Be. Paid. To. Selma. Blair.

First of all, the gown is stunning and the cape is EVERYTHING. No questions about necklaces even register when you have a cape with a beaded choker attached! Not super in love with her hair but the swoop does give a vibe of a superhero recently landed from flight. (Maybe that's just the Endgame obsession talking, whatever.) Her makeup is absolutely perfect, honestly. It enhances her features but does not distract from the dress and the lip color is so good with her skin tone. But what I really want to talk about is this custom matching cane.

This was, famously, Selma's first red carpet since her diagnosis with M.S. and boy howdy did she show this red carpet a thing or two. In a Vanity Fair interview, she says, "I bought an acrylic cane that was very Miami 1980—kind of fabulous and horrible. [...] But the problem with an acrylic cane with M.S. is that you drop the fucker. If it’s acrylic, I’m like, ‘Oh my God. My cane just shattered and it’s everywhere.’” She goes on to talk about how canes should "fit right and look cool" and how she feels her latest role is to be visible as a person with a disability.

I cannot comment on the fit of this cane but I think we can all agree that Selma Blair is definitely nailing the "looks cool" part of the equation. If I ever lose my memories, please universe - next to the picture of Billy Porter from this same event - keep this photo burned in my brain.

I see you. I am paying attention.
