2019 Emmy Awards Red Carpet Rundown: The GOOD!

Welcome back, my dear readers! Are you ready for some pretty princesses and well tailored pants? Let's dive in.

THE GOOD

Niecy Nash!
I have always had a lot of love for Niecy Nash but more so now than ever. This is clearly a custom Siriano because behold with wonder the fit on this garment! BEHOLD, I say! The color is perfection and I love a fashion turban. May we all have a pink metallic fantasy to look forward to someday.

Manny Jacinto!
Masc-presenting tux-wearers, this is the new standard. No notes.

Michelle Williams!
While, yes, I think it could use a necklace, there is no denying that this dress is awesome, the fit is flawless, and her head looks phenomenal.

Ben Whishaw!
I'd like to speak to him about his hair story but he looks otherwise excellent. And he said he was hungover? I have never looked even close to this good with a hangover. Well, I guess I've looked like his hair.

Ava DuVernay!
Sometimes you have to be a fairytale princess, part 1...

Phoebe Waller-Bridge!
Sometimes you have to be a fairytale princess, part 2...

Brittany Snow!
Sometimes you have to be a fairytale princess, part 3...

Patricia Clarkson!
And sometimes you have to be the sexy evil queen here to fuck shit up and steal your man! Eat your heart out!

Dyllon Burnside!
Wow, he looks great!

D'arcy Carden!
Wow, she looks great!

John Leguizamo!
John Leguizamo came as Jack Nicholson to the Emmys but, I don't know, I'm feeling it.

Catherine Zeta-Jones!
Is this a ballroom dancing costume? Yes. Is she wearing matchy matchy accessories? Yes again. Do I wish to see her twirl in this thing? Oh so very yes. This thing started in the WTF but worked its way into my heart. I'm feeling generous today.

Sacha Baron Cohen!
This is definitely some boring costume designer's idea for "the devil but, you know, in disguise" but the fit is really great and he can carry a double breasted jacket, which surprises me.

Sterling K. Brown!
And here's the single-breasted version with colors reversed. Kind of hate the pocket square but the fit is really good so here we are.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau!
It's getting wild in here today!

Sian Clifford!
Listen, if you're gonna come to the Emmys as "woman hiding behind window treatment," make sure that the window treatment has an exquisite fit and that your hair and makeup are appropriately severe.

Sandra Oh!
I love how playful and fun this is while also being sexy and glamorous.

William Jackson Harper!
Everything seems to be in order here.

Catherine O'Hara!
It's not groundbreaking but she's doing her black and white thing and she looks great.

Sophie Turner!
The fit is stunning, the shoes are good, the necklace is interesting, the hair is what she does with her hair. I personally find this boring, but all of the elements are there for this to be in the Good pile.

Naomi Watts!
So this is Dior and Brittany Snow's dress is J. Mendel but honestly I think they could have come from the same collection. If Brittany is Cinderella at the ball, Naomi is Cinderella after she discovered Siouxsie and the Banshees. I'm not sure I love this dress but she is absolutely killing it on this red (purple) carpet. That lip color is such a surprise!

Clea DuVall!
I believe the proper response is something about wanting her to step on my neck or something, right?

Zendaya!
For me, this is the highlight of the night. What an incredible, surprising, stunning look! We are simply not worthy!

  1. I have some quibbles here - D'arcy needs a necklace, Phoebe's is too long, but all in all, a splendid collection.
